Non-Sparking Hammers and Axes for Industrial Safety Applications

When striking tools are required in areas classified as explosive or flammable, standard steel hammers simply aren't an option. Jealco's non-sparking hammers and axes are manufactured by Ampco Safety Tools from beryllium copper (BeCu) alloy — a material specifically chosen for its ability to absorb impact energy without generating the friction sparks that can ignite flammable vapors, gases, or dust clouds.

Our selection includes ball peen hammers ranging from ¼ lb to 1½ lb for precision maintenance work, blacksmith's sledge hammers up to 6 lb for heavy industrial applications, and specialty striking tools across a range of overall lengths to suit confined spaces or open work areas. Fiberglass handles provide superior strength compared to wood, improved vibration damping, and resistance to chemicals and moisture common in refinery and plant environments.

These tools are non-magnetic as well as non-sparking, making them appropriate for use near sensitive instrumentation, MRI facilities, or in applications where tool contact with ferrous materials must be avoided. Suitable for oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, grain handling, and chemical processing facilities in accordance with OSHA and NFPA hazardous location requirements.

What types of non-sparking hammers are available?

Are the handles safe for chemical environments?

Yes. All hammers in this collection feature fiberglass handles, which resist moisture, chemicals, and oils common in industrial and refinery environments. Fiberglass also provides better vibration damping and is approximately 10 times stronger than traditional wood handles.

Can these hammers be used near sensitive instrumentation?

Yes. Because BeCu is non-magnetic, these hammers will not interfere with electronic instruments, sensors, or control systems — an important consideration for maintenance work in process facilities and offshore platforms.

How do I choose the right hammer weight for my application?
